Boost Your GEO: Practical Tips for Structuring AI-Friendly Content

In our previous blog, we explored why now’s the time to ‘Gen up on GEO’– what it is and why it matters. In this follow-up, we share practical ways to structure your content so that AI platforms can more easily understand, use, and reference it.

Before you can improve your visibility in AI-generated answers, it’s important to understand what could be holding you back. Great content deserves to be found, but if it’s difficult to navigate or lacks clear structure, AI may overlook it.

The good news is that, in most cases, you don’t need to start from scratch. Simply restructuring and clarifying your existing content is often enough to improve discoverability.

Six reasons your business might not appear in AI responses – and how to fix it

• Generic organisation descriptions – replace vague statements with clear, specific information about your business, what you do, where you operate and who you help.
Lacking clear signals of expertise – ensure case studies, credentials, evidence, and subject matter expertise aren’t missing or hard to recognise.
Content that’s difficult to extract – long, unstructured text is harder for AI to identify. Use clear headings, concise sections, and lists to make key information easy to find.
No FAQ sections – Question-and-answer content aligns well with how people interact with AI search, so mirror that approach.
No clear takeaways or summaries – AI is more likely to use concise, well-defined statements that communicate the main points.
Limited online authority – Build credibility with high-quality backlinks, media coverage, expert authoritative content, and mentions on reputable websites.

Run a discovery audit

Open ChatGPT or Perplexity and search the way that a potential client would (“who are the leading providers of X in [region]?”). Note whether you appear, whether you’re cited correctly, and which competitors show up. That’s your practical starting point.

Don’t overlook location and language in GEO

• If you serve specific regional areas: Optimise your Google Business Profile with dedicated pages for each service area and location, rather than just a headquarters postcode.
National businesses: Create location-specific landing pages and support your national coverage with local case studies, testimonials, or other evidence of regional expertise, such as regional stockist/”where to buy” pages.
International businesses: Localise content rather than simply translating it. The terms people search for, the certifications they recognise, and the proof they trust vary across markets. Use hreflang tags to ensure search engines recognise the correct language and regional version of your content.

Reviews feed reputation and discovery

Google Business Profile reviews influence rankings directly, and AI tools increasingly reference review sentiment when making recommendations. Respond to all feedback, positive and negative. A well-handled negative review can build trust, demonstrating transparency and a commitment to customer service.

The window of opportunity

GEO is still an emerging discipline, giving early adopters in essential industries a valuable opportunity to build an advantage. Businesses that invest in AI visibility today will be well placed as AI-generated search and recommendations continue to grow.
