Two new videos from Julius Rutherfoord & Co highlight security challenges in cleaning

Two new videos highlighting the security challenges facing businesses, and the importance of systems and procedures to protect facilities being cleaned, have been launched by the secure commercial cleaning® experts, Julius Rutherfoord & Co.

Security is an issue that every business, large and small, must take seriously to protect places, people and reputation. Figures indicate organisations are making significant investment in security, including protection against cyber-crime, with UK firms spending £1.8bn a year, according to recent research.*

External contractors, such as an organisation’s cleaning supplier, must put security vetting first. While the best cleaning contractors are championing progressive attitudes to safety, general levels of security vetting needs to be improved across the industry.

Caroline Hutchins, Operations Director at Julius Rutherfoord & Co said: “We know how important security is to our clients’ business and we make sure our staff, systems and technology ensure clients are in safe hands.

“To highlight just how meticulous our security procedures are, we’ve created these two short videos showcasing our staff vetting procedures and systems for security on our client sites. These, and a wide range of other security measures, set us apart from other cleaning providers.”

Video 1: Staff vetting procedures (Video filmed at JR&Co’s Tramshed HQ)

Home Office figures estimate that as many as 900,000 people are working illegally in the UK. Julius Rutherfoord & Co has introduced thorough recruitment procedures including passport scanning which regularly helps to identify illegal workers applying to work.

During the initial security vetting of staff it inherits through the TUPE process, it frequently finds that up to 40% of the previous contractors’ staff have fraudulent or out of date documentation. Technology enables fake passports or ID documents to be identified in seconds, which means that clients can be guaranteed a 100% legal workforce.

Video 2: Our systems for security on client sites (Video filmed at one of JR& Co’s clients’ premises – Spitfire www.spitfire.co.uk)
Biometric time and attendance systems, whereby a person’s identification can be verified through unique physical attributes, such as their fingerprint or iris, offers the most advanced and reliable means of ensuring only the right personnel enter a premises. This also means facilities managers know that a professional service is delivered to specification, cost-effectively and securely.

This level of security vetting also helps to keep cleaning operatives themselves safe. Everyone has the right to work in secure environments, and anybody employing cleaning operatives has a duty of care to ensure they can work safely without the risk of physical harm. Understanding that security and safety are a two-way priority is essential to gain the highest level of service from your contract staff.
